GALLIPOLIS — Two suspects were indicted by Gallia County grand jurors on Friday in connection with the Jan. 14 death of 58-year-old Ralph Sands of Gallipolis.

Douglas Blake, 27, and Joshua D. Saunders, 25, both of Gallipolis, have each been charged with Sands’ homicide along with abduction, receiving stolen property and aggravated burglary, according to a press release issued by the Gallipolis Police Department.

Sands’ body was discovered in his Fourth Avenue home by a neighbor who noticed that his front door was open. He was reportedly found lying face down on his couch with his hands tied behind his back, though very little information has been released in this case, which had been under investigation by the GPD.

A cause of death has not been designated either as the results of the subsequent autopsy, performed by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office in Dayton, have not yet been released.

Both suspects have been incarcerated in the Gallia County Jail since Jan. 16 on unrelated charges. Blake had been jailed on a contempt of court charge and probation violation, both misdemeanors through Gallipolis Municipal Court. Saunders was incarcerated on a misdemeanor probation violation through Gallipolis Municipal Court

City police acknowledged the assistance of the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office and the Gallia County Prosecutor’s Office “for their invaluable assistance in concluding this investigation,” according to the press release.

Additional details were not released and arraignments on the charges are expected in Gallia County Common Pleas Court this week.
