POINT PLEASANT — As they say, the show, and the Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta, must go on.

Despite the snag of a dilapidated building which has closed a section of Main Street the Regatta typically utilizes, Jacob Hill of the regatta committee said the event will go on as planned.

Hill said whether the building comes down or not prior to Regatta, he was attempting to contact city officials about possibly opening up a section of the closed portion of Main Street, at least temporarily, to allow the parade route to pass through the area.

“As far as we’re concerned, we’re acting like everything is going on like normal…as if the building wasn’t there,” Hill said.

As of Tuesday evening the building was still there with the start of the Regatta less than 48 hours away. As reported in the Point Pleasant Register on Tuesday, city officials were told a construction crew, hired by the new owner of the building, was waiting on paperwork from a state agency to proceed. This paperwork was in relation to the presence or non presence of asbestos in the building. Officials were told this paperwork was approved and the contractor was “good to go” as soon as they received it.

Whatever happens, or doesn’t happen, in the next few days, the Regatta will go on. Below is a complete itinerary of the event.
