The Boston Redsox Kid Nation’s Captain contest recently invited kids from all over the nation to submit an essay on how they would develop and implement a community service project to help other kids. The winning ‘captains’ that will be chosen will serve for a two-year term. Although the total number of submissions is not yet known, in previous years there have been nearly a thousand entries per year.
Boston Kuhn, 10, of Oak Hill, Ohio, has been chosen as one of 25 finalists. He is the son of Phillip and Cindi (Elliott) Kuhn of Oak Hill, and the grandson of Rob and Marilyn Goucher and Wayne and Marilyn Elliott of Gallipolis. His essay was called ‘Equipment for Appalachia’, through which he outlines his desire to organize an event where used softball/baseball equipment is donated and stored for the next season. Then the following year, families in need can come and get free items.
If chosen as one of the 12 captains, Boston will travel to Fenway Park in Boston, MA, later this month to watch a game and take part in a pre-game ceremony. He will also have the opportunity to implement his community service project over the next two years.
This is a quite an opportunity, as he is the only student chosen from Ohio among the top 25.

Participants can vote up to 10 times per email address. Voting ends tonight at 8 p.m. Winners will be announced next week.
