William “Bill” D. McCoy, 82, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012, at his daughter’s home (Diana Wyant) in Jackson, Ohio, where he had resided for three years.
He was born September 27, 1929, and raised on a farm in Pliny, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Virgil and Mary Dunn McCoy. He left home at 15 years of age to work on a riverboat. He was a four-year Korean War Army veteran. He was married to Ruby Nibert on October 7, 1954, and they settled in Gallipolis.
William was a carpenter by trade and worked in construction. He loved the outdoors. He was a private man but enjoyed the flea markets on Saturday. He loved farming and dogs.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby M. McCoy of Jackson; two daughters, Diana (Charles) Wyant of Jackson and Patricia (Antonio) Faria of Ontario, Canada; one grandson, Travis Burdette of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and a very special friend of the family, Mary Jane Brumfield of Gallipolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mary McCoy and a brother, Virgil Hiawathia McCoy.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Fairmount Cemetery, Jackson, Ohio. There will be a military graveside service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service.
