ASHTON — Finally, Hannan can breath a sigh of relief.

After a bit of a rocky start to the 2008-09 boys basketball season, the Wildcats finally managed to break into the win column with a commanding 69-54 victory over Teays Valley Christian Tuesday night in Ashton.

Hannan (1-9) had flirted with its first win several times this season but never could get the edge it needed.

Tuesday night, the Wildcats got the edge they needed and then some.

Thanks to a 21-10 first quarter run, Hannan put up enough of a cushion to handle a bit of a second half slide as the Wildcats held on for their first win of the season.

Hannan took a 43-22 lead into halftime thanks to the big shooting of D.J. Black and Travis Bowman as the Blue and Gold outscored its opponent 22-12 in the second quarter.

Teays Valley Christian got its second win in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 18-11 to cut the lead to 54-40, but Hannan closed out the contest with another run to hold on for the 15 point victory.

Black and Bowman both had double-doubles for Hannan as Black finished the night with 31 points and 14 rebounds and Bowman had 20 points and 18 boards.

Derrick Akers was next for the hosts with nine points, followed by Patrick Flora with six points, Alex Facemeyer with two points and Jared Taylor with one point.

Teays Valley Christian’s Noah Osborne led all scorers with 32 points. Ben Parsons was next for TVC with 12 points.

With their first win of the season behind them, the Wildcats will look to add even more to their totals when they return to action Friday with a trip to Buffalo.
