Roland E. ‘Ron’ Noe

Roland (Ron) E. Noe, 82, of Galllipolis, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, suddenly and peacefully at his residence.

Roland was born in Ironton on Jan. 9, 1927, son of the late James Roscoe and Lillian Noe.

He graduated from Ironton High School in 1944, where he was a member of the Ironton Marching Band. Roland enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduating. He served on LST “Landing Ship Tank” 503, a World War II naval ship.

He continued his education at Marshall University, where he graduated in 1950 with a B.S. degree in personal management. Roland was a member of the Greek fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Roland and his wife, Juanita Fouts, were married on March 2, 1948, in Catlettsburg, Ky. They were married 60 wonderful years and she survives.

Also surviving are sons, Michael D. (Linda) Noe of Louisville, Ohio, James E. (Jane) Noe of Gallipolis, and William J. (Mary) Noe of Pickerington; grandchildren, Michael D. Noe II, Andrew J. Noe, Amy J. Noe, Jeremy B. Noe and Jason B. Noe; sister, Gertrude L. Classing of Ironton; and beloved pet, Molly.

He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Emmet Classing.

Swift & Co., Evans Grocery Co. and Thoroughfare Supermarket employed Roland. He was a grocery buyer for Associated Grocers in Huntington, W.Va., from which he retired in 1987.

Roland was a member of Morning Dawn Masonic Lodge No. 7, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus (32nd Degree) Aladdin Temple Shrine, and the Gallipolis Shrine Club.

He was an active member of the Gallipolis Lions Club since 1968. He was a member of the Ohio LST/Amphibs Association. He was a member of Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club, Pomeroy. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

Roland enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, traveling, golf, especially with his sons, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, and a proud father and grandfather. At all times, he was a man of humor and compassion.

Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Willis Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church, with Bob Powell and Pastor Bill Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Noe II, Andy Noe, Mike Hardway, Gil Price, Faron Sanders and Ron Loscar.

Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Noe and Jason Noe.

There will be a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A flag presentation will be conducted at the graveside by volunteers of area veteran lodges.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Roland’s memory to Grace United Methodist Church, 600 Second Ave., Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
