WEST COLUMBIA — A chase which began on West Main Street in Pomeroy, Ohio ended on Lieving Road in West Columbia with one man under arrest for allegedly stealing a van and operating a meth lab inside that van, according to a Huntington media outlet.
Christopher S. Porter, 32, address unreported, was arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Saturday evening and charged with operating a clandestine lab and possession of a stolen vehicle, again according to the Huntington media outlet. Calls to the sheriff’s office by The Point Pleasant Register to discuss the arrest were unsuccessful.
Meigs County Sheriff Robert Beegle told the Point Pleasant Register, Meigs County Deputy Jeff Morris was sitting at the foot of the Bridge of Honor at Triplett’s Car Wash on West Main Street in Pomeroy, Ohio when he was alerted to be on the lookout for a possibly stolen van. Morris spotted the van in Pomeroy and when he turned on the cruiser lights to pull Porter over, Porter allegedly fled across the bridge with Morris, as well as a patrolman from the Village of Pomeroy, in pursuit.
Beegle said the chase eventually ended on Lieving Road when Porter allegedly ran into Morris’ cruiser. Beegle said the cruiser sustained minor damage which was relegated to knocking the front license plate bracket loose. Despite the chase, crash and alleged portable meth lab, there were no reported injuries. The media outlet also reported crews were on the scene to ensure the van was cleaned.
Porter was later taken to the Western Regional Jail where, according to the jail’s website, he remained on Monday. The jail’s website also reported his bail had been set at $50,000.
