GALLIPOLIS — After striking a utility poll and a tree, a Gallipolis man fled the scene of a one-vehicle crash on Second Avenue Saturday.
According to a traffic crash report filed with the Gallipolis Police Department, at approximately 12:47 p.m. on Saturday, Marcus W. Siders, 34, was traveling southbound on the 600 block of Second Avenue when his vehicle crossed the center line several times before veering off the left side of the road and striking a utility pole, breaking it, and coming to a stop after striking a tree.
Reportedly, an electric service drop was also ripped from the side of a nearby residence and a street light on the opposite side of the street was broken as a result of the crash.
In addition, the 600 block of Second Avenue was closed for approximately two hours, and traffic was rerouted while the scene of the accident was cleared.
The driver of the vehicle fled on foot prior to the arrival of an officer with the police department. The investigation into the incident continues and charges are pending.
The condition of the driver is unknown, and no other injuries were reported.
