GALLIPOLIS — A former Williamson, W.Va., resident alleged to have stolen over $50,000 in classic guitars from a Gallia County home in 2009 was arraigned in the Gallia County Court of Common Pleas following his recent extradition from Kentucky.

Riley Keith Marcum, 26, Hardy, Ky., pleaded not guilty to one count of burglary on Friday in the common pleas court.

Marcum is alleged to have broken into a residence located on Ohio 218 near Gallipolis on April 23, 2009, and to have stolen 10 guitars, including a 1938 D-18 Martin guitar and a 1941 D-28 Martin guitar from the victim. Deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office later recovered one of the guitars.

A warrant was issued for Marcum’s arrest in relation to the indictment in this case on Sept. 24, 2010. He was arrested on the warrant in Pike County, Kentucky earlier this month. The defendant later waived extradition in a Pike County District Court on Sept. 19 and was transported to the Gallia County Jail on Wednesday.

During his arraignment, Marcum’s bond was set at $50,000, 10 percent, with an additional bond of $1,500, 10 percent secured. Bond was later posted for the defendant’s release.

Marcum is scheduled to appear for a status conference in the common pleas court on Nov. 9. A plea agreement may be filed in this case by Nov. 25. A jury trial has been set for Dec. 12.
