True outcome of this election

Dear Editor:

Just when I thought we were over the nonsense about pigs and pit bulls and lipstick, things have gotten even nastier on the campaign trail. We got a phone call last week warning us about Obama’s relationship with a domestic terrorist. This does not surprise me. I watched the GOP trash Dukakis with the Willie Horton ads and “Swift Boat” John Kerry. Karl Rove’s henchmen, now assisting John McCain, think no tactic is too low to gain the White House. And, surprisingly, it has worked in the past.

I have always admired McCain for his service and his courage. It seems he is selling his soul for a chance to be president. He himself was maligned by the Rove organization in 2000 in South Carolina, and it is very disappointing to see him using the very same tactics that hurt him so unfairly.

This election is far too important to all of us to take it lightly. To use a well-worn phrase, each of us must ask, “Are you better off than you were eight years ago?” Can you afford four more years of this mismanagement of the economy? Things are getting really scary as folks lose their jobs, homes, and savings.

This election is not about John McCain’s patriotism or Barack Obama’s eloquence. It is about US. ALL of US.
