Research Obama’s record on guns

Dear Editor:

The recent article on Senator Obama being supportive of gun rights and hunters needs a response (“Supporter details Obama’s stance on hunting rights,” Gallipolis Daily Tribune, Oct. 9, 2008). Nowadays, it is typical to hear only “sound bites” or read a short article about a candidate that may not give full disclosure.

In USA Today on Oct. 9, 2008, the NRA-PVF ran an ad stating Sen. Hillary Clinton brought attention to his record against guns and gun owners in her campaign. They also gave four facts to support their statement that Senator Obama would be the most anti-gun president in history: He voted to allow prosecution of law-abiding citizens who used a firearm for self-defense in the home; this year, he supported Washington D.C. laws banning handguns and making self-defense illegal — in your own home; he supported a 500 percent increase in federal taxes on guns and ammunition; and he voted to ban hundreds of rifles and shotguns commonly used for hunting, including single-shot, over-under and side-by-side shotguns.

Go to www.GunBanObama.com to reference the voting record and statements from the actual documents, articles, Senate voting record and interviews by Senator Obama that give a more complete picture of what he really believes.

This applies to candidates from all parties. Do your homework and make an intelligent vote based on facts — not spin.
