Blue Devils blast Golden Rockets

GALLIPOLIS — In its final tune-up before the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League golf championship today, Gallia Academy sure looked primed and ready to go during Monday night’s 33-stroke victory over visiting Wellston at Cliffside Golf Club.

The Blue Devils remained unbeaten at home this 2008 season, posting a team tally of 165. The Golden Rockets ended the night with a 198.

The GAHS duo of Kamal Dayal and Jordan Cornwell shared medalist honors on the day, posting matching rounds of 4-over par 40. Kyle Rhodes and Nick Saunders rounded out the team scoring with respective rounds of 42 and 43.

Corey Hamilton and Boeing Smith also had rounds of 44 and 64, respectively, for the hosts.

Tyler King paced WHS with a 45, followed by Steve Snider with a 48 and Blake Downard with a 52. Thomas Skaggs rounded out the scoring with a 53. Tony Sparos and Nick Derrow also shot respective totals of 58 and 59.

GAHS travels to Lancaster today for the SEOAL championships at Valley View Golf Club.

Meigs wins 3rd straight

ATHENS — Meigs golf won a season-best third consecutive Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division match on Monday with a 5-stroke victory over host Alexander at The Elm Golf Course in Athens County.

The Marauders (5-5 TVC Ohio) evened their league mark to .500 for the first time since the opening week of the season, posting a winning team score of 174. The host Spartans shot 179 as a team.

Tyler Andrews led the Marauders and all golfers with a low round of 39, finishing the day with medalist honors. Joey Blackston was next with a 42, followed by Ryan Jeffers with a 46. Bobby King rounded out the Maroon and Gold scoring with a 47.

Scott Kennedy and Ben Hood also had respective rounds of 48 and 59 for MHS.

Ryan Donnelly led Alexander with a 42, followed by Trent Gabriel with a 45 and Tyler Daniels with a 46. Tyler Gwinn also had a 46 to round out the team scoring. Kyle Lindner also shot a 50.

Meigs will play its final TVC Ohio home match today when it hosts Nelsonville-York at Pine Hills Golf Club in Pomeroy. The event will start at 4:30 p.m.
