Born April 28, 1917, in Ohio Township of Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey L. and Ruth Elliott Johnson.
She was a retired seamstress at the Columbus State Institute and was a former member of the Immanuel Baptist Church at Columbus, New Life Church at Gahanna, Faith Baptist Church at Rodney, and currently a member of the Mercerville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Annette (Jack) Maxwell of Gahanna; four grandsons, Joel (Sumeeta) Maxwell of Columbus, Josh Maxwell of Greenwood, S.C., John Maxwell of Gahanna, and Gill Swindler of Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Swindler of Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Tressa Cremeens of Gallipolis, Adaline (Edmund) D’Andrea of Columbus, and Barbara (Michael) Huber of Philadephia, Pa.; two brothers, Merrill (Jane Anne) Johnson of Gallipolis, and Bill Joe Johnson of Gallipolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Swindler, Charles Clark and Henry J. Sheets; ,a son, Jerry Swindler; a grandson, Greg Swindler; two sisters, Opal Halley and Bonnie Swindler; and five brothers, Clarence “John” Johnson, Lowell Vance Johnson, Harold Lee Johnson, Junior Johnson and Chauncey Kenneth Johnson.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, in the Cremeens Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Tom Clark and Pastor Ray Whitmer. Interment will be in the Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008.
Casketbearers will be the grandsons and nephews.
