Stone still leading Riverside seniors

MASON, W.Va. - Carl Stone of Ripley remains on top of the standings after 17 weeks of play in the Riverside Senior Men's Golf League.

Stone has amassed 216 points. Second and third place remain unchanged from Week 16. Racine's Mick Winebrenner is still closest to the leader with 207.5 points, followed by Paul Somerville of Point Pleasant with 204. In fourth through 10th place, respectively, are Jim Gress (183), Bob Hill (170.5), Curtis Grubb (163.5), Haskel Jones (160.5), Earl Johnson (158), Don Waldie (157.5), and Bub Stivers (156.5).

After last week's 80 players, numbers were slightly down as 65 players participated in Week 17. A total of 17 points were possible for the day. Somerville and teammates Steve Safford, Bobby Joe Roush, and Ed Wilson shot the low score of 60, as did the three-man team of Charlie Hargraves, Jim Spencer, and Cecil Minton.

Third place was a three-way tie. Rick Ash, Rex Young, Rich Holland, and Willis Dudding shot 61, as did the teams of Gress, Jerry Dean, George Stewart, and Pat Williamson and Stivers, Tom Dotson, Kenny Greene, and Mike VanMatre.

Clark Greene on the ninth hole and Bob Hysell on the 14th hole were the closest to the pin winners.

In all, the league has seen 122 different players participate at least once this season.
