She was born Oct. 22, 1925, daughter of the late Henry and Naomi Armstrong Williams. She was a member of Paint Creek Baptist Church as well as a member and Past Worthy Matron of Lucy Ann Chapter #79, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former employee of GDC, where she retired in 1989 after 22 years of loyal service.
In addition to her parents, “Meem”, as she was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her husband, to whom she was married for 63 years, Charles Williams; a brother, Charles “Goober” Smith; a sister Helen Jamison and an infant daughter.
Surviving are four daughters: Patricia Payne and Ruth (Naamon) Person, both of Columbus; Sandra (John) Kidd of Dayton, and Charlene (Stanley) Robinson of Gallipolis; two sons: James (Jeannie) Williams of Bidwell and Anthony (Michelle) Williams of Dayton; 13 grandchildren: Kimberly Harris, C.J. Payne, ReNay Johns and Naamon Person, III of Columbus, Kyasa Mills of Dayton, Josh Williams of Point Pleasant, W.Va., Ryan Williams of Gallipolis, Jade Williams of Bidwell, Chauntelle Williams of Gallipolis, J.B. Robinson of Gallipolis and Marissa, Keionna, and T.J. Williams of Dayton; 21 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday July 11, 2008, at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Entombment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: James Griffin, Jonathon McCabe, Dillard Sanders, Mike Payne, Fred Howard, and Andrew Gilmore. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jesse Saunders and Bill Armstrong.
