Winebrenner takes lead in Riverside Golf League

MASON, W.Va. - Mick Winebrenner, a retired golf coach from Southern High School, has taken the lead in the 2008 Riverside Senior Men's Golf League.

Winebrenner has a total of 177 points to lead Carl Stone who has 175 points and Paul Somerville with 170.5 points for the year. The three players atop the standings have been trading the lead back-and-fourth throughout the year.

Rounding out the top 10 are Ken Whited (141.5), Jim Gress (137), Bob Hill (137), Curtis Grubb (131.5), Don Waldie (130.5), Haskel Jones (125.5), Paul Maynard (115.5) and Earl Johnson (115.5). 

A new record of 86 players were on hand for Tuesday's play. The total made 20 foursomes and two three man teams for a total of 22 points possible for the winning score. This weeks low score of 61 was shot by the team of Mick Winebrenner, Curtis Grubb, Bill Rainey and Earl Johnson.

There was a three-way tie for second place with scores of 62 between the team of Chuck Stanley, Siebert Belcher, Bill Pethel and Larry Matthews, the team of Ed Deblaski, Tom McNeely, Jim Spencer and Paul Somerville and the team of Bob Brooks, Ed Wilson, Ed Coon and Jim Capehart.

The closes to the pin winners were Claude Proffitt of Patriot, Ohio on the ninth hole and Carl Stone on hole No. 14.
