Carl Stone leads Riverside Senior League after seven weeks

MASON, W.Va. — Carl Stone of Ripley has the lead in the 2008 Riverside Senior Men’s Golf League by a scant half-point over Paul Somerville of Point Pleasant. Stone has a total of 89.5 points for the season to establish an early lead in the standings.

Mick Winebrenner, of Racine, currently sits third with 81.5 points. Winebrenner is the defending Riverside Senior League champion.

Sixty-four players were on hand for last Tuesday’s play, which mde up 16 teams of four players each. The low score of the day was 62 (8-under par) and it was recorded by the team of Bob Humphreys (Camp Conley, WV), Bob Hysell (Pomeroy), Ken Whited (Pt. Pleasant) and Paul Somerville (Pt. Pleasant).

Four teams finished tied for second-lowest score on the day with a 6-under 64.

Bill Yoho (New Haven), Rick Northup (Pt. Pleasant), Pat Williamson (New Haven) and Jim Cunningham (Huntington) were one of those foursomes, as were Gordon Clark (West Columbia), Dick Dugan (Racine), Joe Long (Gallipolis) and Dorwin Clark (New Haven).

The other squads were Rusty Wood (New Haven), Rex Young (New Haven), Skip Johnson (Middleport) and Cecil Minton (Pt. Pleasant), and Mick Winebrenner (Racine), Bucky Dent (Pomeroy), Chuck Yeager (Mason) and Paul Lanham (Ripley).

The closest to the pin winners were Paul Somerville on No. 9 and Rich Mabe on No. 14.
