Eastern advances 13 to regionals; South Gallia, Southern have seasons end at districts
OAK HILL - The Eastern Eagles track team will have five individuals and four relay teams competing at regionals based on their performances at the Division III district track and field meet at E. E. Davis Stadium.
Though they had no athletes advance to regionals, thus concluding their seasons, the Southern Tornadoes and South Gallia Rebels also competed at the event.
First place earned a competitor 10 points for his or her team, and second place earned eight. Third through eighth earned from six through one, respectively.
Eastern finished fifth in the boys meet with 57 points, while the Tornadoes were 14th with three.
The Lady Eagles finished ninth on the girls side with 36.50 points. The Lady Rebels were 14th with seven.
Taking the boys top spot was Lucasville Valley with 109 points. South Webster tied Belpre for second with 101 each.
With a meet-high 110.50 points, South Webster won the girls meet, while Belpre again took second with 96.50. Third went to Wheelersburg at 83.50 points.
First through fourth place finishes earned competitors a spot at the regional tournament next week in Pickerington, and senior Alex Burroughs will be competing in three events.
Burroughs placed second in the boys 400m dash, finishing in 52.80 seconds. And with a jump of 19 feet, nine inches, Burroughs took third and also advanced in the long jump.
Joining him in the 400m dash will be freshman teammate Klint Connery, who was right behind Burroughs in third with a time of 54.30 seconds.
Klint wasn't the only Connery to advance, however, as freshman Emeri took third in the girls 300m hurdles. Her time was 49.30 seconds.
Advancing in the boys 3200m run with a second-place finish was Eagle senior Aaron Martindale, who ran the two-mile race in 10:22.80.
Senior Zack Newell took fourth in the boys discus with a throw of 127 feet.
The Eagles will have two relay teams competing at regionals.
Burroughs, Klint Connery, sophomore Mike Johnson, and freshman Devon Baum collectively ran the 4x400m relay in 3:40.80, good enough for second place. The Eagles' 4x800m relay team, consisting of Martindale, Johnson, senior Josh Collins, and junior Keith Aeiker finished third. Their combined time was 8:50.30.
The Lady Eagles had two relay teams advance, as well.
With a second-place finish, the 4x400m relay team of Emeri Connery, senior Katie Hayman, junior Alyssa Newland, and sophomore Audrionna Pullins finished in 4:25.50 to advance, and Connery, Hayman, Pullins, and senior Morgan Werry took fourth in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:56.60 and will also compete at regionals.
