South Gallia track and field competes with Meigs, Eastern at VC meet

VINTON COUNTY - Track and field teams from Meigs, Eastern, and South Gallia high schools were on the road to compete with Vinton County and Federal Hocking in a five-way meet Tuesday.

The teams competed in 17 events, and the order of finish showed Meigs in second, Eastern in third, and South Gallia in fifth in both the boys and girls meets.

Federal Hocking won the girls meet with 113 points. Meigs scored 98, Eastern scored 58, and South Gallia scored 19. Vinton County, also with 58, tied Eastern for third place.

For the boys, it was host Vinton County coming out on top as the Vikings scored 106 points. The Marauders finished with 86, three points ahead of the Eagles in third, while the Rebels scored 15. Federal Hocking had 58 in fourth place.

Meigs had a total of 14 first-place finishes, either individually or in relay events, and Eastern had five. The Marauders also had three finish second and nine finish third. The Eagles had seven individuals or relays take second and nine take third. South Gallia had two second-place and three third-place finishes.

Meigs' Melissa Grueser won both the shot put and discus events, and Eastern's Haley Perdas was runner-up. South Gallia's Savanna Hatfield was third in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Ashley Good of Meigs placed fourth in the shot put, and Whitney Putman of Eastern was fourth in the discus.

In the boys discus, Eastern's Zack Newell took first and placed second in the shot put. Meigs' Cassady Willford was first in the shot put and fourth in the discus. South Gallia's Paul Barker was runner-up in the discus, and teammate Kevan Johnson was fifth in the shot put. Mason Metts of Meigs was third in the discus.

Meigs' Brandan Fisher edged teammate Cornelius English for first place in both the 100m and 200m dash. Eastern's Alex Burroughs also placed in the 200m dash, taking fourth.

Lady Marauder Catie Wolfe, like Grueser, had a pair of first-place finishes. She won the 100m dash and 200m dash. Lady Rebel Natasha Adkins took second in the 100m, and Patti Vining, also of Meigs, was third. Eastern's Morgan Werry was fourth. In the 200m, Eastern's Emeri Connery and Katie Hayman were third and fourth.

The other competitor with dual first-place finishes was Aaron Martindale from Eastern. He took first in the boys 800m and 1600m run, and teammate Josh Collins placed second in the 1600m and third in the 800m. Keith Aeiker, also of Eastern, was third in the 1600m and fourth in the 800m.

Devan Soulsby of Meigs was first in the 800m run and Alyssa Newland of Eastern was third. Both competed and placed in the 1600m run, as well, where Soulsby was second and Newland was once again third.

Meigs' other two individual firsts came from Adrian Bolin in the girls 100m hurdles and Jeremy Smith in the boys 400m dash. Also placing in the 100m hurdles was Casey Smith of Meigs and Jackie Burns of South Gallia. They were fourth and fifth, respectively. Additionally, South Gallia's Jeff Clyburn was fourth in the 400m dash and Eastern's Zach Moore was fifth.

In the girls 400m relay, Meigs was first, Eastern was second, and South Gallia was fifth, and in the girls 800m relay, the order from first through third was Meigs, Eastern, and South Gallia.

The Meigs 400m and 800m relay teams won on the boys side, as well, and Eastern was second in the 800m relay. South Gallia was fourth in the 400m relay.

The Eagles had three relay teams place first: the boys 3200m, the boys 1600m, and the girls 1600m. Meigs was third in the boys 3200m and 1600m relays, and they took fourth in the girls 1600m relay.

Bolin was fourth in the girls 300m hurdles, followed by South Gallia's Andrea Thomas in fifth.

Thomas was fourth in the 400m dash behind Meigs' Morgan Lentes in third.

Lady Eagle Morgan Burt had a pair of third-place finishes in the girls high jump and long jump events. Patti Vining and Kelsey Shuler, both of Meigs, were fourth in the high jump and long jump, respectively.

Lady Marauder Olivia Bevan was third in the 3200m run. Meigs 3200m girls relay team also took third.

South Gallia's Jake Watson took third place in the boys 3200m run, followed by Nick Schultz of Eastern and Nathan Cook of Meigs in fourth and fifth.

Marauder Crockett Crow was third in the boys 300m hurdles, and teammate Jacob Well edged Crow for third in the 110m hurdles.

In the boys high jump, Eastern's Mike Johnson was third. In the long jump, Burroughs was third, Eastern's Devon Baum was fourth, and Well was fifth.
