POMEROY - The Pomeroy man accused of stabbing his former girlfriend and another man has been charged with attempted murder and other charges.

Michael K. Burns, 48, was charged in a secret indictment with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, aggravated burglary, violating a protection order, intimidation of a crime victim or witness, and retaliation.

The attempted murder and aggravated burglary charges are first-degree felonies, the charge of felonious assault are second-degree felonies, and the remaining charges are felonies of the third degree.

Burns is accused of stabbing Lisa D. Gray, 33, and Raymond E. Kline, 23, early on New Year's Day at a home on Mechanic Street he once shared with Gray. He was restrained from that residence under two separate civil protection orders when the crimes took place.

The indictment against Burns was filed in Meigs County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday. Burns was at large for nearly two days after the alleged stabbings when he was apprehended by police on Brownell Avenue in Middleport. Since his arrest on Jan. 2, Burns has been in sheriff's custody in the Southeastern Regional Jail in Nelsonville. His bond was set by County Court Judge Steven L. Story at $500,000.

Burns was out on bond on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and the violation of a temporary restraining order at the time of his arrest on the stabbing charges. He had been convicted of domestic violence and had served a jail sentence on the charge.
