RIO GRANDE — The Gallia-Vinton Educational Service Center (ESC) Governing Board held its 2008 organizational meeting on Jan. 2 at its regular meeting location in Wood Hall on the campus of the University of Rio Grande.
Newly elected board members took the oath of office, including Jerilyn Belcher, Subdistrict 1; David Stiffler Jr., Subdistrict 3; Thomas Metcalf, Subdistrict 5; and Joan Cornelius, Subdistrict 7.
Carol Porter of Vinton County, was elected president. Cornelius, of Gallia County, was elected vice president. Belcher, of Vinton County, was selected as the legislative liaison and Stiffler, also of Vinton County, was chosen the student achievement liaison.
The board will hold its regular meeting on the third Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Gallia-Vinton ESC Office.
Approval was granted for membership in the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio School Boards Association. The contract for ESC Superintendent Dr. Denise Shockley was extended through 2012.
