POMEROY - Many motorists traveling through Pomeroy on Friday were surprised as they waited for traffic lights to change when someone tapped on their car window and offered them a turkey.

Jenni Dunham of the Mulberry Community Center, a facility operated by the Meigs Cooperative Parish, which also oversees God's NET and the New Horizons Child Enrichment Center, described the turkey distribution as the parish's holiday random act of kindness program.

She said the turkeys came from Billiso Co. of Jackson through the efforts of Mike Evans, who donated them for distribution during this holiday season.

“People were amazed as they were handed a turkey with a ‘Merry Christmas,'” said Dunham, who quoted one woman as saying. “You mean it's free? Really free?” #
