GLOUSTER — Trimble is still holding out hope it can grab a share of the Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division title, Southern is just hoping for another win.

Someone has to budge on Friday night.

Despite falling to Waterford two weeks ago, the Tomcats are still hoping that two wins to finish out the year and a Waterford stumble down the stretch, as unlikely as that may be, would give them a share of the TVC-Ohio title.

But before the team can start looking at a number of TVC scenarios, they must first focus on a scrappy Southern team when the two teams kick-off Friday night at Trimble.

The Tornadoes, who have also felt the wrath of Waterford, falling 52-7 last week, are desperately looking for another win.

Southern already has wins over Hannan (39-0) and Miller (14-6), but six losses to Symmes Valley (31-14), Pocahontas County (49-8), South Gallia (33-6), Wirt County (49-6), Federal Hocking (53-12) and Waterford has left a bad taste in the mouth of the Tornado gridiron squad.

Trimble has had an equally frustrating season with losses to Berne Union (19-6), Alexander (15-14), Shadyside (58-27) and Waterford offsetting wins against Nelsonville-York (7-6), Symmes Valley (47-0), Eastern (47-12) and Federal Hocking (28-0) last week.

Overall the Tomcats are averaging 23 points per game while giving up 17.1 points per outing. Southern is averaging 13.2 points per game while giving up an average of 34 points a game.

Trimble will also be playing to stay in the postseason hunt sitting 11th in the Division VI, Region 23 playoff chase, just one spot behind Waterford. Southern, on the other hand, is currently 22nd out of 28 teams and has already been mathematically eliminated from that same region.

Helping lead the Tomcat attack will be a deadly rushing attack led by backs Joe Eing, Tyler Dylan, Brandon Keith, Isaac Standley and others. Standley also handles most of the passing duties for Trimble.

Southern has been going in the other direction, managing just 127 total yards in last week’s loss to Waterford. Sean Coppick and Taylor Lemley led the Tornadoes on the ground with 48 yards and 28 yards respectively in that loss while Jordan Taylor handled duties under center.

Friday will mark the final road game of the year for the Tornadoes before returning home to face county-rival Eastern in the season finale.

Kick-off is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
