The Gallia Academy Blue Angels owned the net, amassing 20 blocks, en route to beating the Vinton County Lady Vikings 3-1 during high school volleyball action on Thursday evening.
The Gallians won by scores of 25-10, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-13 to remain undefeated after three contests so far this season.
“This group of girls love to play the game,” said Gallia coach Amy Shriver. “When they get the offense going, they are incredible to watch.”
Alexis Geiger led the way with 10 kills and had seven blocks. Alex Swisher and Ryann Leslie also hit double figures in kills along with four and three blocks respectively. Brittany Miller and Amy Noe had four kills and two blocks while Dana Dotson added a pair of kills and blocks each.
Courtney Shriver, in addition to handing out 14 assists, had three dinks for kills. Katie Taylor led in the assist department with 16.
Geiger scored 13 points, including nine straight to close out the match in Game 4, to pace the Angels from the service line. Kaci Shoemaker added a dozen and Swisher had 11 points.
Shriver and Geiger led defensively with eight digs each.
Gallia Academy also won the junior varsity contest by scores of 25-20, 23-25 and 25-9 to remain unbeaten. Mollie Blake led the way with 18 points (6 aces) and four kills; Samantha Barnes had 16 points (8 aces) and five kills; while Morgan Leslie added four points and kills each.
Gallia Academy travels to Ironton on Tuesday for the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League South Division opener.
