CHESHIRE — A seven-run second inning put the Meigs High School softball team comfortably ahead. Then a 10-run third put the game way out of reach.

The Lady Marauders made up for a lackluster offensive performance the day before by posting 18 runs on a dozen hits en route to an 18-2 victory over the River Valley Lady Raiders on Tuesday.

The game was stopped after four innings of play.

Cassie Whan paced Meigs by going 3-for-4 including a double. Whitney Smith also had three hits for the winners. Lian Hoffman had two singles while Amber Burton, Amy Barr, Chelsea Manley and Talisha Beha also hit safely.

Stephanie Griffith, Kari McFann and Holly Taylor all had singles for River Valley.

Amy Barr started and picked up the pitching win; she and Hailey Ebersbach combined on the four-hitter. McFann went the distance in taking the loss for the Lady Raiders. The defense did make six errors behind McFann, which helped lead to many extra runs for the winners.

Meigs goes to Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division leader Wellston on Thursday. River Valley, meanwhile, goes to Chesapeake to resume the Ohio Valley Conference schedule.
