JACKSON - First it was almost a mercy rule victory for Gallia Academy, then almost a miraculous comeback by Jackson.
In the end, though, the Gallia Academy Blue Angels are still atop the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League softball standings.
Gallia Academy used a big nine-run third inning to claim an early 10-0 lead, Jackson battled back to make a game of it, but the Blue Angels held on for the 10-7 victory to improve to 2-0 in the league.
The Blue Angels are 3-1 overall after successfully bouncing back from their first loss of the season last week at Rock Hill. Jackson, meanwhile, fell to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEOAL.
Brittyn Saunders led the Angels' attack with a pair of doubles and a triple while Amy Noe also had three hits on the evening, in addition to being the winning pitcher.
Noe allowed four earned runs on 12 hits while striking out four. Haley Callahan, who left after the second inning, was tagged with the loss.
Childers and Joseph had three hits each for Jackon.
Also for Gallia Academy, Brittany Miller had a double and single while Kimber Davis, Brittany Elliott, Lindsey Niday, Leslie Niday and Lindsay Ward also hit safely.
Gallia Academy returns to action today when it crosses the river to face powerful Point Pleasant.
