RIO GRANDE - A $3,000 grant will allow The Perennial Cat Shelter in Gallia County to provide vouchers to individuals deemed to be hardship cases so their cats and kittens can be spayed and neutered.

The money was provided by the Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, a Keybank Trust based in Cleveland, and will enable The Perennial Cat to offer $5 vouchers for people who qualify for Jobs and Family Services assistance looking to have their cats and kittens over 3 months of age spayed or neurtered.

The vouchers are good for work done by Riverbend Veterinary Services, French Town Veterinary Clinic or Dr. Bill Crank in Point Pleasant, W.Va.

Around 12 vouchers are available each month until December. Vouchers can be purchased through Gallia County Jobs and Family Services or through the approval of The Perennial Cat shelter staff. The shelter can be contacted at (740) 645-4745.

Vouchers will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. A waiting list will be maintained when the quota for the month has been used. Individuals on the waiting list will be given preference the following month.

Each voucher is good for only one spay or neuter. The same household cannot be given more than three vouchers during the calendar year. The vouchers are for feline spaying and neutering only and do not apply to dogs or other kinds of animals. The vouchers are non-transferrable.

For more information on the implementation of this program, contact Janice Case at (740) 645-2747 or Evelyn Kirkhart at (740) 245-9014.
