GALLIPOLIS — A Gallia County Jail prisoner escaped custody Monday, but was quickly apprehended by local authorities.

Authorities received a call at 10:42 a.m. that a prisoner, Dale Roberts, 19, allegedly fled from the second floor bathroom while waiting on a hearing in Gallipolis Municipal Court.

Gallipolis City Police and the Gallia County Sheriff’s Department immediately locked down area schools. After a 19-minute pursuit, deputies, city officers and officers from the Municipal Court Probation Department located the prisoner between the Hike and Bike Trail and Spruce Street Extension.

Prior to his alleged fleeing, Roberts was to be arraigned in municipal court on felony theft and falsification charges. He could now face an additional charge of escape.
