GALLIA — A mobile home fire at 277 Wagoner Road near Gallia has been ruled an arson, the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Department reported.

Greenfield responded to a mobile home fire reportedly with unknown entrapment on Tuesday at 10:17 p.m.

Fire Chief Jamie Bartels said the first arriving units were able to confirm the mobile home was unoccupied at the time and no one was trapped.

Due to the suspicious nature and origin of the fire, the Ohio State Fire Marshal's office was called to assist with the cause and determination of the blaze, Bartels said.

Fire Marshal investigators, along with Greenfield VFD investigators, were able to determine and declare the fire to be arson, he addded.

“Investigators are currently following up on potential leads; however, no suspect has been named at this time,” the chief said.

Firefighters were on scene for about two hours and received assistance from the Madison-Jefferson and Centerville fire departments. Gallia County EMS was also summoned to the scene, but its run was canceled enroute once it was confirmed there was no entrapment in the mobile home.

Bartels said that according to information received throughout the investigative process, the mobile home belonged to Paul Payne, whose current residential address in unknown, who was reportedly leasing the land from Blaine Halley of Bidwell.

There was no injuries as a result of the fire, Bartels said.
