GALLIPOLIS — A North Carolina man was arrested Monday for allegedly shoplifting several items from the Wal-Mart on Eastern Avenue.

At around 11:28 a.m., Gallipolis City Police received a call that a man had been observed concealing merchandise and had left the store without paying.

Once confronted, the suspect allegedly fled on foot.

Thanks to numerous reports, police were able to track down a man that fit the suspect’s description and after a short foot pursuit, placed the suspect under arrest.

The merchandise was recovered from a church next to Wal-Mart, where the suspect, later identified as Kevin Writesal, 28, of North Carolina, had allegedly hid the items.

Wal-Mart employees identified the suspect and after being charged with theft, Writesel was taken to the Gallia County Jail.
