River Valley completes fifth outright OVC title

PEDRO - The River Valley Lady Raiders won their final regular season game against the Rock Hill Redwomen to retain the outright Ohio Valley Conference volleyball title for the fifth consecutive year.

River Valley has only lost two matches, both to South Point, since joining the league five years ago.

The Lady Raiders beat the Redwomen in four games by scores of 25-20, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 on Thursday evening.

River Valley spikers were on target, killing the ball 42 times for the night. Brooke Taylor went 37-for-51 with 18 kills, Carmen Waugh was credited with eleven spiking 20-for-26, Kayla Smith added four going 24-for-29, Kirsten Carter added six kills spiking 21-for-30 and Kari McFann was 6-for-11 killing three.

Leading in service points for River Valley were Waugh with 16, Smith with nine, Samantha Simons eight, McFann seven, Taylor six, Carter two and Courtney Rogers helped out with one.

The Lady Raiders finish up the regular season with an over-all record of 11-10 and an OVC record of 9-1.

The Raider reserve team won in two sets by scores of 25-18, 25-14.

River Valley begins tournament play hosting Crooksville on Tuesday.
