Somerville continues to lead Riverside League

MASON, W.Va. - Paul Somerville of Point Pleasant has amassed a total of 282 points for the 2006 season to lead his closest rival, Clark Greene of Hurricane, with 263.5 points.

In third place with 263 points is Southern High School golf coach Mick Winebrenner. The last player with an outside chance of catching Somerville is Jack Fox of Clifton with 252.5 points for the season of the Senior Men's Golf League.

There are two weeks remaining in the 2006 campaign which makes a possible 40 points left to be taken by the first place team members.

There were 58 players on Tuesday to make up 13 teams of four players and two teams of three men to allow 15 points to the winners. The first place score of 59 at 11 under par was shot by the team of Mick Winebrenner, Jerry Arnold, Haskel Jones and Jim Cunningham.

There was a tie for second with scores of 61 between the teams of Mick Fetty, Paul Lanham, Nick Salem and Paul Somerville and Willis Korb, Kenny Greene and Russ Wood.

The closest to the pin winners were Lanham on No. 14 and Jim Gordon on No. 7. Two weeks remain before the league finals and awards dinner on September 26.
