Gallia Academy Hall of Fame to add 10 members
GALLIPOLIS - Members of the Gallia Academy Hall of Fame Committee required three ballots to select 10 new members that will comprise the Class of 2006 that will be officially inducted at an honor banquet on Sept. 9.
Committee President Tom Morgan stated, “This was very difficult for all of us because we had the names of 26 very worthy candidates who earned honors for GAHS and themselves, and whose names had been placed in nomination for this year, but under our agreement, we could only select 10 people.”
Members of this year's group to be inducted include the name and year of graduation from GAHS. They are : Joe Duncan 1961; George Pope 1963; Jackie Knight 1966; Jimmy Gilmore 1968; Dave Burnett 1971; Larry Snowden 1972; Jim Niday 1975; Tom Valentine 1975; Brent A. Saunders 1976; and Nancy Evans Seeburg 1983.
The names of the eight men and eight women who were nominated, but not elected, will be carried over until next year when they will again come before the committee to be included with those nominated for the Class of 2007.
Morgan announced that the 10 new inductees will be recognized at the GAHS-Point Pleasant football game at Memorial Field on Sept. 8 with the induction banquet to follow at the Grace United Methodist Church on Sept. 9 starting at 6 p.m. There will be a social period until the dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of awards.
All of those being inducted will be the guests of the HOF Committee at the dinner while all others planning to attend will pay a $15 fee and make advance reservations by calling Morgan at 446-4129 or 446-0300: Danny Mink at 446-1708 at home or 446-3643 at work, or Jerry Frazier at 446-1271. The deadline to make reservations for the banquet is Friday, Sept. 1.
The addition of the 10 new members this year marks 50 former athletes, coaches, and boosters who are in the HOF since it was formed in 2002.
The GAHS HOF Committee is composed of school board members, school administrators, coaches, former GAHS athletes, and older active boosters, all of whom are knowledgeable about the long history of athletics at Gallia Academy high school.
