MASON, W.Va. - Paul Somerville of Point Pleasant, W.Va. has taken a commanding lead in the 2006 Riverside Men's Senior Golf League.
Somerville's total of 195.5 points leads Mick Winebrenner by 17 points. Clark Greene of Hurricane, W.Va. holds down the third position with 175.5 points for his season total.
Jack Maloney sits fourth with 161 points, Ken Whited is fifth with 160 and Pat Williamson (155.5), Harley Rice (155), Jack Fox (152), Jim Capehart (152) and Wes Peterson (149.5) round out the top 10.
A total of 64 players braved the 100 degree heat on Tuesday to form 16 teams of four players to make it possible to collect 16 points with the winning score.
There was a four way tie for first with identical scores of 61 at nine under par and included the team of Jim Capehart, Mike Fetty and Don Waldie, the team of Charlie Hargraves, Ed Wilson, Curtis Grubb and Gene Gray, the team of Gary Bates, Jim Gordon, George Stewart and Paul Somerville and the team of Don Hoffman, Jim Spencer, Clyde Sayre and Bub Astivers.
The closes to the pin winners were Jim Spencer on hold No. 17 and Donnie Fields on hole No. 14. There has been a total of 128 different players to play at least one week for the season and there is still two full months of play remaining before the season ending party on September 26.
