Davis scored a dozen points in the opening quarter, when she scored her 1,000th career point, and helped the Lady Dragons stake claim to an early lead. Fairland led 34-27 at the half, but the Blue Angels rallied in the second half.
Fairland held a 66-60 lead late in the fourth quarter, but Gallia Academy's Jackie Wamsley nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing with a 1:18 to play, then teammate Alexis Geiger had a steal and layup to cut the deficit to a point with 42 seconds to play.
But it was some clutch free throw shooting by Fairland that kept the lead in its possession. Davis and Auxier each made a pair of charity tosses inside the final minute to help preserve the win.
The Lady Dragons were 10-of-12 from the stripe in the fourth quarter and meshed 17-of-21 for the game.
Erika Smoot added a dozen points to compliment Davis, while Megan Auxier added nine points for the winners. Fairland evened its record at 5-5.
Gallia Academy, now 6-6, was led by 22 points by Wamsley. Geiger, a freshman, scored a career-high 18 points and Brittany Elliott tied a season-high with 16. Lindsey Niday was the fourth Angel in double figures with 11. Rachel Jones tossed in a bucket.
The first half was a series of runs. Fairland used a 6-0 run at the end of the first quarter to take a 20-15 lead.
The Lady Dragons scored the first bucket of the second quarter, but the Blue Angels responded with a 12-2 run to re-take the lead at 27-24. But a Fairland 10-0 closed out the opening half and led 34-27 at intermission.
Fairland saw its lead cut to two points late in the third quarter, but was able to hold on to it and was up by four, 48-44, entering the final stanza.
Gallia Academy never led in the fourth, but did put the pressure on in the final minutes.
In the junior varsity game, Fairland (7-2) needed overtime to capture a 42-39 victory over Gallia Academy (7-5). Destinee Spears scored 15 points in the win while Michelle Johnson went for 22 in the setback.
Both teams return to their respective conference schedules on Thursday. Fairland entertains River Valley while Gallia Academy plays host to Jackson.
