After being a resident of Gallia County for over 20 years, I am concerned for the welfare of my parents remaining in that area. No crime is pursued unless there is harm to a person, or should I say, “death to a loved one.”

My parents have not been robbed once, not twice, but three times in the past 10 years. What is so bad is that we know who it is and the sheriff's department does not feel the need to pursue things the way that we do.

My mother found a cigarette butt and blood outside the window and when she contacted the department, they asked her to “place this in a baggy and bring it down to the department.”

Are you kidding me right now? No, I do not expect the sheriff's department to be ran like “CSI” over a burglary, but come on, do we not have better expectations of the community than to be protected by a bunch of Barney Fifes?
