Born Nov. 1, 1913, in Providence, Gallia County, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Nora Porter McKean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Garnet Haskins McKean; one sister, Reta Sheets; three brothers, Marcus, Porter and Stanley McKean; and a grandson, Joshua McKean.
He was a farmer and retired businessman. He started the Quaker State Service Center in 1945 and in 1952 he and his wife built and opened the William Ann Motel, which they operated for 46 years. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, serving with the Seabees.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a 50-year member of Morning Dawn Lodge #7. He was also a member of VFW #4464.
He is survived by one daughter, Martha (Jay) Brown, of Gallipolis; one son, Charles (Barb) McKean, of Gallipolis; five grandchildren, one step grandchild; five great grandchildren; four sisters, Jewel Caldwell of Gallipolis; Rhoda Briggs of Gallipolis; Lucille Hagerty of Middleport and Juanita (Leon) Saunders of Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with pastor Alvis Pollard officiating.
Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Jeremiah Brown, Adam Clark, Colin McKean, John McKean, Brent Saunders, Ron Saunders, Bob Pegg and Danny Merrill McKean.
