GALLIPOLIS - Victoria Herreman made just enough free throws down the stretch.
The Granville Christian Academy senior meshed four of six free tosses inside the final two minutes as the Lady Lions beat host Ohio Valley Christian 46-45 for the girls Tip-off Basketball Tournament title Saturday.
Herreman, who scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter, split a pair with 10 seconds remaining to give her club a four-point edge. Ohio Valley Christian's Sarah Jenkins answered with a 3-pointer, but it was too late, as time expired when the ball passed through the net.
Granville, a school located around 30 miles east of Columbus, improved to 2-0 with both wins coming during the weekend tourney. The Lady Lions defeated Adams County, the third-place team, in the semifinals.
The Lady Defenders, on the other hand, fell to 1-3 on the year. OVCS beat Calvary Baptist Academy on Friday.
Brittany Pound carried most the weight offensively for the winners, amassing 18 points, a dozen of which came in the first half. Leeah Roley also reached double figures with 12 points.
Jenkins tied a career-high with 21 points in the loss and Kristi Davis added 17 for Ohio Valley Christian. The two combined for 84 percent of the Lady Defenders' offense.
Kalee Edmonds added three points while Richelle Blankenship and Lindsay Carr each chipped in a bucket apiece for OVCS.
The host team was in control early-on and held leads as large as eight points during the second quarter. However, GCA closed out the first half strong and started fast in the third period to gain a lead it never relinquished.
Ohio Valley Christian is at Southern (1-1) on Monday.
