Residents of Meigs County will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate Independence Day during the upcoming holiday weekend. Celebrations kick off in Rutland on Saturday, July 2 with parade lineups beginning at 9 a.m., followed by a full day of fun which ends with fireworks at 11 p.m. Both Racine and Middleport will celebrate Independence Day on Monday, July 4. Middleport is planning events beginning at 3 p.m. at Dave Diles Park, a parade at 5 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Racine’s parade begins at 10 a.m., followed by a chicken barbecue at 11 a.m. at the fire department and fireworks at 10 p.m. at Star Mill Park. Pictured is Mady Scott, 8, of Mason, W.Va., taking a rest on a very patriotic-looking Court Street in Pomeroy. For a list of holiday events in the Bend Area in West Virginia, see page A2.
