Dorothy Smith — Senior Hero
In 1948, Dorothy Smith moved to Gallia County with her husband who served as the County Extension Agent at the time. She has been a member of Grace United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years and often volunteered at the 4-H Food Booth and was a stay-at-home mother while her children were at home and enjoys working around her house.
Roy Jones — Fire Hero
Roy Jones has been with the fire department since 1972 and with Emergency Medical Services 1974. Since the early 1970’s, he had taught CPR and First Aid and started teaching EMT and Paramedic classes in the 1980’s, when he also helped initiate the First Responder program in Gallia County.
In addition, Mr. Jones and his wife have a small outside wood furnace business. Mr. Jones has been married for 34 years and has one son.
The 2011 Gallia County American Red Cross-Gallipolis Daily Tribune Everyday Heroes breakfast and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, June 24 at the Gallia Co. Senior Resource Center. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 8 a.m. Tickets are $10 each. For information, contact Betty Beggrow at 446-8555.
