Roland Paul Lidel, 89, of New Haven, West Virginia, passed away on May 29, 2011. He was born on March 10, 1922, in Wentworth, South Dakota, son of the late Paul Gustaf Lidel and Olive Steele Lidel. He was a retired Major of the United States Air Force. He served as a pilot in the Thirty Third Troop Carrier Division in World War II. He was a member of the New Haven United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 140, and the Lyons Club.

He is survived by his children, Douglas Roland (Lynn) Lidel of Fairfield, Ohio; Marcia Ann (Tom) Hoffman of Columbus, Ohio; and Craig Steven Lidel of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Lidel, Darren Hoffman, Mark Hoffman, Jennifer (John) Hammond, Matthew Lidel, Bethany (Waylan) Sturgeon, Samantha (Dale) Keatley, Jordan Neigler and Curtis Neigler; great grandchildren, Caeleigh Lidel, Kaylyn Hammond and Emma Hammond; brother, Darrell (Maxine) Lidel of Yankton, South Dakota; and many neices and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Leora Ann Lidel; second wife, Dorothy J Lidel; brother, Dennis Lidel and sister, Neva Gill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at Anderson Funeral Home in New Haven, W.Va., with Reverend Joanne Clevenger officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery where Military Funeral Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 140 and the Veterns of Foreign Wars Post 9926. Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Lidel may be made to the New Haven United Methodist Church.
