The host Lady Raiders (11-9, 4-6 OVC) honored five seniors — Jessica Hager, Kaitlyn Roberts, Kelsey Sands, Madison Mays and Brooke Marcum — before the start of the contest, but the Lady Pointers (16-3, 10-0) weren’t as kind over the next 32 minutes en route to capturing their fourth consecutive OVC crown.
SPHS — winners of seven of the last eight OVC titles overall — also captured a season sweep after posting a 77-42 victory at home back on January 22.
South Point led 18-13 after eight minutes of play, then went on a small 15-11 run in the second canto to take a 33-24 advantage into the intermission.
The guests, however, made their biggest charge of the night in the third canto after an 11-4 surge turned a three-possession halftime lead into a sizable 44-28 cushion headed into the finale.
The Lady Raiders put together their best run of the night down the stretch with a 17-12 charge, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the final 11-point outcome.
After the halftime break, River Valley pulled to within seven points (35-28) with 5:38 left in the third — but SPHS closed the canto with 9-0 run. The Lady Pointers also led by as many as 18 points (50-32) with 6:21 remaining in regulation.
Brooke Marcum — the program’s third 1,000-point career scorer in history — led the hosts with a double-double effort of 11 points and 10 rebounds, but she was held scoreless in the fourth period.
Kaitlyn Roberts was next with 10 markers, followed by Jessica Hager, Cady Gilmore and Kelsey Sands with six points apiece. Beth Misner and Alli Neville rounded out the scoring with four and two points, respectively. RVHS was 10-of-15 at the free throw line for 67 percent.
Jalynn Bradburn led the victors with a game-high 23 points, followed by Kayla Fletcher with 14 markers and Allison Mitchell with 10 points. SPHS was 5-of-9 at the charity stripe for 56 percent.
River Valley — which concluded regular season play in the setback — now focuses on the postseason. The fifth-seeded Lady Raiders will take on fourth-seeded Crooksville at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, in a Division III sectional final at Wellston High School.
