ASHTON — A Mason County man was arrested this week following the discovery of a meth lab at his residence.

On Thursday, the Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police arrested Jerold Allen Fugate, 48, Ashton, for the operation/attempted operation of a clandestine drug lab at his home, located at 27119 Ashton-Upland Road.

Troopers discovered the lab during a consented search, and found evidence indicating that Fugate was operating a meth lab out of his trailer as well as from a near by outbuilding. After the investigation, Fugate confessed to the crime and was taken to the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville.

Bail for Fugate has been set at $105,000.

Cpl. K.M. Gilley served as the investigating officer. Gilley was assisted by Sr. Troopers Eldridge, A.B. Ward, L.W. Price, J.S. Crane and Sgt. E.B. Starcher.
