BIDWELL — River Valley High School seniors were awarded for their efforts and hard work this week.

On Tuesday evening faculty, students, and their families met at RVHS to acknowledge the scholarships and awards during their secondary education. The teachers say they are proud of this class and what they have accomplished, and look forward to what the future holds.

Graduation takes place Friday, May 26 at 7 p.m. on the football field, pending good weather.

Maggie Campbell and Andrew Moffett are the valedictorians for the 2017 graduating class from River Valley. Brianna McGuire and Brody Moles are both selected as salutatorian for the class of 2017.

“It’s super relieving,” said Campbell. “It’s like this big burden is finally gone. I took a lot of courses so I could be valedictorian. Now, I’m like I don’t have to take anything in college I don’t want to.”

“I think it’s nice that you can do whatever you want and you’re not forced to do anything,” said Moles. “Your choices are yours to make.”

Andrew Moffett plans to attend Ohio University with a major in electrical engineering. Brianna McGuire will attend Youngstown State University to major in marketing and minor in political science. Campbell will attend Shawnee State University and aims to get her bachelor of science in nursing. Moles plans to attend The Ohio State University to major in chemical engineering.

“The one thing I think that stands out for many students in this class is that they seem to be service oriented,” said River Valley High School Principal T.R. Edwards. “They’re about building school spirit and tradition and carrying on tradition. Many excel academically and athletically, but I really feel that many of them have a servant’s heart. They just want to give a little back and hopefully that’s something that adds to a community. They understand they do that for a community and help whenever they do that.”

The top 10 of the class will be wearing a silver cord during graduation. They are: Maggie Campbell, Abby Coleman, Beverly Hess, Leanne Hively, Brianna McGuire, Andrew Moffett, Brody Moles, Ian Polcyn, Jessica Steele, Arianna Trout, Joshua Winters, and Garrett Young.

Chris Taylor has committed to service with the United States Air Force.
