NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio — It all came down to a single forfeit in one weight class.
As a result, the Gallia Academy High School wrestling squad lost its Ohio High School Athletic Association Region 13 Duals semifinal match on Wednesday, losing at New Lexington 36-30.
The Blue Devils were the second seed in Region 13 in the OHSAA Duals Tournament, with the powerful Panthers being the top-seeded squad.
New Lexington then went on to win the regional, defeating Licking Valley in the championship match 51-24.
Gallia Academy, almost, stole the host Panthers’ thunder.
However, the Blue Devils did not fill the heavyweight weight class — and automatically six points went to the Panthers for the 36-30 win.
New Lexington senior Matt Adams earned that forfeit victory.
Gallia Academy amassed wins in seven weight classes — three via six-point pinfalls and four via three-point decisions.
The Panthers won four weight classes by pinfall and a pair by decision, with a 3-0 decision at 182-pounds and an 11-4 outcome at 220.
Gallia Academy’s Caleb Greenlee, at 106 pounds, pinned Cai Reynolds of New Lexington in two minutes and 45 seconds.
Hunter Jacks of the Blue Devils needed only two minutes to pin Christian Blair at 170, while Justin Reynolds did the same in five minutes to Dylan Wright at 195.
Kyle Greenlee (10-6 at 113 pounds), Jared Stevens (16-10 at 120 pounds), Isaiah Holley (9-4 at 138 pounds) and Kaleb Crisenberry (9-2 at 145 pounds) captured the Devils’ decision wins.
For the Panthers, Austin Ratliff pinned Morgan Stanley at 126, Andrew Spicer pinned Kaden Ehman at 132, Corban West pinned Lane Pullins at 152, and Clayton Glick pinned Andrew Mullins at 160.
At 182 pounds, Sam Allen earned a 3-0 decision over Gallia Academy senior Ryan Terry.
At 220, Luke Shively decisioned the Blue Devils’ Anthony Sipple.
In the opening semifinal match on Wednesday, Licking Valley edged West Holmes 40-36 to qualify for the final.
The Blue and White will wrestle again on Saturday at the annual Phil Davis Duals Tournament at Chesapeake.
