RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Former University of Rio Grande baseball standout David Steele has been named a 2015 Pecos League Southern Division All-Star.
Steele, a native of Kettering, Ohio, will participate in the independent professional league’s All-Star Game on Monday, June 29, at 6 p.m. MDT, at Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Steele, who completed his Rio Grande career in 2014, is a pitcher for the White Sands Pupfish, a franchise headquartered in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He currently sports a 4-0 record with one save and a 4.69 earned run average.
Steele’s four wins make him part of a four-way tie for fifth place among the league leaders.
The Pecos League is comprised of eight teams in four states, with most of the teams located in New Mexico.
Steele posted a 13-15 record with three saves and a 3.87 ERA during his four seasons at Rio Grande. He appeared in 58 games – 28 of which were starts – with eight complete games and a pair of shutouts.
