WILLOW WOOD, Ohio — You just can’t take a quarter off.
The South Gallia girls basketball team failed to score in the second quarter Saturday afternoon, as non-conference host Symmes Valley took full advantage and rolled to a 41-27 victory.
The Lady Rebels (3-16) trailed by just one point, 11-10, eight minutes into play, but trailed 18-10 after a scoreless second canto.
South Gallia outscored the hosts by a 8-to-7 clip in the third period, but the Lady Vikings (11-8) ended the game on a 16-9 run, that capped off the 41-27 victory.
SGHS senior Ashley Northup led the Red and Gold offense with nine points, followed by Erin Evans with six points on two trifectas. Aaliyah Howell posted five points, Mikayla Poling scored four points before fouling out, Olivia Hornsby added two points, while Carrie Watson contributed one point to the SGHS total. South Gallia shot 5-of-15 from the charity stripe, equaling 33.3 percent.
Jensyn Shepherd led the victors with 12 points, followed by Meranda Hayes with 10 and Kaitlyn Payne with eight. Payton Walsh scored six points, Caitlyn Crabtree and Breanna Brumfield both added two, while Sierra Ross chipped in with one marker. SVHS shot 7-of-10 from the free throw line, equaling 70 percent.
SGHS — which visited Miller on Monday — returns to the court on Wednesday when Wahama visits Mercerville. The Lady Rebels topped the Lady White Falcons by a 88-58 count on December 17, in Mason.
