TUPPERS PLAINS, Ohio — Now that’s finishing what you started.
The Meigs girls basketball team scored 21 points over the final eight minutes on Saturday afternoon, capping off a 59-49 victory over non-conference host Eastern, at ‘The Nest’.
The Lady Marauders (7-7) made three trifectas in the opening quarter and led 18-9 through eight minutes of play. Meigs sank three more triples in the second quarter and led 30-19 at halftime.
Eastern (9-4) came out of the break refocused, outscoring the Maroon and Gold 16-to-8 in the third period, which cut the margin to 38-35 headed into the fourth quarter. However, Meigs slammed the door with a 21-14 fourth quarter run, sealing the 59-49 triumph.
The Lady Marauders were led by freshman Kassidy Betzing with 15 points, followed by Devin Humphreys with 12 and Madison Hendricks with 11. Madison Fields scored 10 points, Danielle Morris added seven points, while Alli Hatfield and Marissa Noble rounded out the MHS offense with two points each.
EHS junior Laura Pullins led the way for the Green and Gold, scoring a game-high 22 points. Elizabeth Collins marked 14 points, Rebecca Pullins added seven, while Alyson Bailey finished with six in the setback.
Both EHS and MHS returned to league action on Monday, while the Lady Eagles visiting Southern and Meigs hosting River Valley.
The Lady Marauders have now won three straight games and seven of their last eight. Eastern had its three-game winning streak end on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles will host Miller on Thursday, the same day that Meigs visits co-league leader Alexander.
