RIO GRANDE, Ohio — Kayla Briley had 30 assists to go along with three service aces in leading the University of Rio Grande to a 25-9, 25-9, 25-13 win over Bluefield State College, Friday night, in non-conference volleyball action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
The RedStorm rebounded from a straight sets loss at Shawnee State on Thursday night, improving to 4-2.
The Lady Blues were playing their season opener.
Briley, a junior from Marion, Ohio, also had three blocks in the winning effort.
Sophomore Aleah Pelphrey (Piketon, OH) led Rio with 12 kills, while junior Autumn Snider (Marion, OH) and senior Alex Phillips (Orient, OH) had nine kills each. Phillips also recorded three blocks.
Junior Chandler Brown added a team-high 18 digs and six service aces in the victory for the RedStorm.
Bluefield State managed just 19 kills against 16 attack errors in the match.
Tyann Thomas led the Lady Blues with five kills and three digs, while Leandrea Armbrister had nine assists and Sashane Watson also had three digs.
Rio Grande returns to action on Tuesday night at West Virginia University-Tech.
