The iPad Point of Sale System utilized by the up-and-coming Nybble Café will allow customers to take a print receipt or have it emailed instead. As the business becomes more established, every table will have an iPad, as well.
GALLIPOLIS — Bryan Blair has been very busy over the summer. He is currently putting the final touches on his new café, Nybble, set to open next week on Court Street in Gallipolis.
A ribbon-cutting for the new café is slated for 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 20.
“I’ve always wanted to open a restaurant or café, and I took the opportunity to open one up here in Gallipolis; that decision was partly due to a grant from the Digital River Project. Also, with the park and the waterfront, it’s a great location,” Blair said, adding that he will make use of local resources, buying food locally as much as possible.
“As long as we can buy local food we will, although of course there might be seasonal limitations on that. I have also used locally-purchased materials in all of my renovations,” Blair said.
Blair, who has a background in human resources and business, noted that the restaurant will sell café-style food, such as salads and flatbread sandwiches, and will enable its customers to access menus and make their orders via iPads at the tables.
“We’re also planning to have flat-screen TVs on the walls with constant Twitter and Facebook feeds,” Blair said, adding that people will be able to contribute to live commentary on the atmosphere and food and service as they eat.
Consistent with the aim of the Digital River Project, the menu will also have a “techy” theme, featuring a signature dish called the Megabyte, and the establishment name itself has a double meaning. As well as obviously being the homophone for the word ‘nibble,’ it’s a term that refers to a unit of computer memory.
“Technology plays an important role with the Digital River Project,” Blair commented. “It’s all about improving the quality of life for everyone. People in this area are seeking the change that the project is trying to provide. Its members are seeking to bring the community together and think of Gallipolis as an incubator for prosperity, bringing in new business.”
Headed up by a committee of local business professionals, the Digital River Project’s aim is to help local entrepreneurs start up new businesses in Gallipolis. The project’s president is Jodie McCalla, and Blair commented that he is impressed that existing business owners are so willing to help new and up-and-coming establishments.
